Cold sore treatment products
and methods flood the stores and internet. Often they are a big disappointment.
And it is important to know
that they do not all work the same for everybody - because you may have
different causes than someone else.
You will have to experiment with different remedies to discover
your personal cold sore treatment.
Often you will find success
only when you
combine two or more procedures.
But before you get started, it will greatly help you to know what exactly what
causes cold sores
for you.
There are several different triggers. Knowing
your cold sore trigger will
make it easier to create your own cold sore treatment plan.
Learn more about your
cold sores and you will be better prepared to defeat this parasite
virus.
Here are five tried and true cold sore treatment tactics for you to start with.
These will work for most people. Try them.
1. LYSINE -
Most people who
use lysine as a cold sore treatment take 3000 to 5000 milligrams in capsule form
daily during an outbreak.
Some folks take
500 milligrams each day as a preventative.
Over the long haul this does not work very well as the body tends to get used to
it requiring larger and larger doses to be effective.
But, if you get cold sores and have a big event coming up, it is a great short
term protection that really works.
2. ICE -
Put ice on the target area as soon as you feel a cold sore coming on
- at the first itching or tingling sensation.
This is actually a very effective cold sore treatment only if used before the sore
breaks open.
(Once the sore opens, ice will still give comfort but it will also slow down the
repair process.)
3. TEA -
You can use
wetted and frozen tea bags instead of ice mentioned above. It is much more
effective than plain ice.
Once
the cold sore opens up, use warm tea bags for 15 minute sessions.
Applying heat brings a rush of healing blood to the area which greatly speeds
healing.
An additional bonus - tea contains nutrients that fight
virus activity.
4. ZINC -
You can apply zinc
externally to the cold sore and take it internally in
supplement form. This one-two punch has proven to be quite effective as a cold
sore treatment.
A zinc nasal gel can be used effectively for both applications. In the
nose it gets into your bloodstream fast. On the sore it absorbs into the
sore quickly. Zicam is a common product that comes to mind.
5. CALCIUM -
Take plenty of calcium. Calcium is the main mineral your body uses
to keep your body alkaline. This is important for peak health.
Most people with
cold sores are in an acid state. If you get a lot of cold sores, calcium may be
the one cold sore treatment that will stop them.
